The CN Tower Can Work It Out - Tor

Tor Remix
The CN Tower is
built upon our bones,
The CN Tower will
always be our home.

Tor is Montreal-based producer most known for his Sufjan Stevens hip-hop remix project Illinoize. This track is a more recent piece of work not to be overlooked.

The remix samples the vocals and strings of Toronto's Final Fantasy track The CN Tower Belongs to The Dead and flawlessly mixes it with Q-Tip's Work It Out.

When Lost At Sea - The Wooden Sky

We were arrested on Aberdeen,
With empty hands and mouths to feed,
So I put my hands up and begged release,
And now Julia it seems,
That our honesty was brief.

This was the opening track for last night's show at the Grad Club. The Wooden Sky played an enjoyable set full of energy and raw emotion. This show was the kick off a of cross-country tour beginning in Kingston to further promote their sophomore studio album If I Don’t Come Home You’ll Know I’m Gone. Commonly described as folk-rock, this Toronto band had me at the first line of When Lost At Sea, referring to Kingston's own Aberdeen Street.

They also have a cool project called A Documentary in Pieces, which is a ten part documentary capturing their adventurous tour Bedrooms & Backstreets last August. Their recorded performances included unique locations, such as the hull of a boat, a canoe against rocky mountains in Banff, a gondola at the top of Whistler, & within a giant field of beautiful sunflowers.

Bye Bye Bye - Plants and Animals

Whats gonna happen to you?
Bye, bye, bye.
You have woke up to soon.
And the world is rearranged.
And now your feelings have changed.

I had forgotten about this particular song, until I heard it again today. Plants and Animals gave us a great album, Parc Avenue, back in 2008. It's the original progressive rock that makes this album stand out. I can't wait for their new release La La Land, in April 2010.

See them live at the Grad Club in Kingston on February 6th.

Rocks in the Dryer - Michou

I showed up drunk to graduation.
That's been my way of moving on,
Pills and highway getaways,
They made blurs feel like a light parade,
But this tunnel has no clear end.

Michou is a folk pop band from Windsor with an upcoming album, Cardona. Leading up to the release the band is adding new content available for download every Friday on their website.

If you give them another listen Michael Hargreaves's pure honest vocals and the group's simple-yet diverse melodies can be mesmerizing.

You can also catch them live this month in Toronto on January 20th.

Rome - Dog Day

If you burn out,
It's not the end,
Rise above it.

This track comes off the third album from Halifax’s Dog Day, Concentration. Effortless melodic pop that makes the whole five minutes of this track enjoyable.
